They get a new girl in school, prep her up, and get John Tucker to fall for her, so that on his birthday bash, she would dump him and break his heart.
Sounds like a team of creative geniuses really worked long hours to come up with the idea behind the film.
The director is Betty Thomas who directed "The Brady Bunch Movie", "Doctor Dolittle", who also produced "Charlie's Angels." That should explain things.
